ReFantazio Gets Recognized as Best Game at Japan Game Awards
Developed by Studio Zero and published by Atlus, Metaphor: ReFantazio received the event’s top honor, the Grand Award, at the Japan Game Awards 2025.
An awards ceremony held by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) to recognize outstanding video games released in Japan throughout the previous year also granted the Award for Excellence to the Studio Zero’s RPG.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is set in the United Kingdom of Euchronia, a medieval fantasy realm mirroring the contemporary real world, after the assassination of its former king, and follows the protagonist, Will, an orphaned boy of the magic-wielding Elda tribe and the prince’s childhood friend.
Since May 29, 2025, the title has been available on Xbox Cloud, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC for Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard subscribers.
Besides Xbox and Windows PC, the game is also playable on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
With two trophies from the Japan Game Awards 2025, Metaphor: ReFantazio has received a total of 15 accolades in different categories across multiple industry award ceremonies, since its launch on Oct. 11, 2024.

Besides that, the Breakthrough Award was received by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Movement Award by Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, the Special Award by PlayStation Store, the Game Designers Award by Indika, while the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry Award was granted to the Nintendo Switch 2.
