Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Will Receive Online Multiplayer
CD Projekt Red is aiming to implement online multiplayer elements in Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, according to a recently posted job listing on the company’s website.
Announced through a post on X (formerly Twitter) alongside several other vacancies, the position of Lead Network Engineer for the project titled Cyberpunk 2 hints at responsibilities such as: “Lead your team to develop and optimize multiplayer systems, including matchmaking, and address challenges related to latency, bandwidth usage, and server performance.”
It is known that multiplayer was initially planned for Cyberpunk 2077 but was ditched due to the title’s rocky launch.
In January 2024, CD Projekt co-CEO Adam Badowski stated that the company was considering adding multiplayer elements to Cyberpunk 2, but didn’t elaborate on any details.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, which puts the game on the list of best-selling video games of all time, alongside such titles as Borderlands 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Diablo III, Elden Ring and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
The game has one major DLC titled Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which sold over 10 million copies globally.
