Users Rush to Cancel Subscription Due to Xbox Game Pass New Pricing
Microsoft’s website crashed on Oct. 1, 2025, due to the influx of users rushing to cancel their subscription following the announcement of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate monthly membership price increase.
Shortly after the reveal of a 50% cost hike for the Game Pass Ultimate subscription plan, from $19.99 per month to $29.99, multiple online reports signaled that Microsoft’s website, which contains the page for cancellation of Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, was broken.
Notably, the subscription price rise happened just two days ahead of a price increase for the Xbox Series X|S in the US, which will be implemented on Oct. 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, Amazon, GameStop, Walmart and Best Buy are still distributing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate monthly subscription codes priced at $19.99, with some of them distributing it as a 3-month bundle for $59.00.
Most likely, retailers have a massive backlog of such codes that can be distributed at the original price. While none of those companies have publicly commented on the situation, GameStop turned it to their advantage and made it part of the marketing campaign.
