Off the Grid Seems Set to Pay Homage to Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction

It looks like the Web3 cyberpunk-themed battle royale shooter Off The Grid is about to make a nod to Quentin Tarantino’s film Pulp Fiction.

The game has hinted at a future update with a poster posted on X (formerly Twitter) saying “Mike the Gimp,” designed with a leather pattern and metal studs.

The Gimp is a minor antagonist in Quentin Tarantino’s second film, 1994’s Pulp Fiction, whose image is strongly associated with leather patterns, metal studs, and chains, which were also mentioned in the announcement for Off The Grid’s upcoming update.

Labubu is a line of collectible plush toys created by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung. The series features zoomorphic elves

The news comes on the heels of the title’s reveal on Sept. 30, 2025, of its homage to the viral collectible plush zoomorphic Labubu toys, character skin called Le BoBo, which will be added to the game in Ocober. 2025.

Initially launched on Oct. 8, 2024, Off The Grid is playable on PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Developed and published by Gunzilla Games, the game was envisioned by Neill Blomkamp, the film director and screenwriter behind movies such as 2009’s “District 9,” 2013’s “Elysium,” 2015’s “Chappie” and 2023’s racing drama “Gran Turismo,” which is based on the sim racing video game series developed by Polyphony Digital.

Off The Grid features a 60-hour narrative campaign, supported by a sci-fi cinematic series titled “Off The Grid Cinema,” which, as of now has two episodes, Switcher and Vincent.

Set in a cyberpunk dystopia where cybernetically augmented contestants participate in a televised bloodsport on an isolated island called Teardrop Island, using futuristic military weapons and equipment, Off The Grid offers its players both PvE and PvP encounters.

As of the time of writing, the game has a “Mixed” rating on Steam with 1,457 reviews, along with a 3.9-star rating out of five on the Epic Games Store, and an all-time peak of 12,867 players, according to SteamDB.
