Age of Wonders 4 Receives New Expansion, Teases Three More Coming
The third Expansion Pass for Age of Wonders 4, which includes four DLCs, started rolling out on Sept. 30, 2025, with the launch of Age of Wonders 4: Cosmic Wanderer.
Along with the launch of the first of four expansions, the game’s developers also detailed the other three upcoming DLCs and announced their release dates.
Age of Wonders 4: Cosmic Wanderer brought to the game a new premade Ruler, Bhajif Erranstar, the Cosmic Wanderer costume, a new active ability called Cosmic Rescue, new hero loadouts for Champions and Wizard King Rulers, as well as a new society trait, Empire of the Cosmos, based on mixing various affinities, along with Orbs of the Far Traveller and Staff of the Wanderer item forge skins. The free Wisp Update landed in the game simultaneously with the release of Age of Wonders 4: Cosmic Wanderer.
The second of the four DLCs of Expansion Pass 3, titled Age of Wonders 4: Thrones of Blood, is planned for release on Nov. 11, 2025. It will bring a new ruler type, the Elder Vampire, with a unique skill tree of dark abilities, one of which allows recruited heroes to be transformed into vampire servants who share their earned experience with the ruler.
Age of Wonders 4: Thrones of Blood will also bring an option for constructing the Vampire’s Castle, a replacement for the Wizard’s Tower, with exclusive city structures, and harness thralls as a vital resource to fuel Ritual Spells. The expansion will also bring three new Tomes exploring the forgotten arts of blood and torment, along with new narrative content, the new map Sunless Lands and more.
The third DLC, titled Age of Wonders 4: Rise from Ruin, is set for launch between January and March 2026. It will bring to the game a new Nomad Culture, a new transformation Form, new Tomes, along with new map regions and world map content, as well as new wildlife and units and more.
The last and fourth DLC of Expansion Pass 3, titled Age of Wonders 4: Secrets of the Archmages, is slated for release between April and June 2026, bringing new Story Realms, new narrative events, new Tomes, new wildlife, new units and more.
Age of Wonders 4 is playable on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Developed by Triumph Studios and published by Paradox Interactive on May 2, 2023, the 4X turn-based strategy game became the sixth title in the Age of Wonders series, following 2019’s Age of Wonders: Planetfall.
As of the time of writing, Age of Wonders 4 has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 14,271 reviews and an all-time peak of 42,877 players, according to SteamDB.
