Battlefield 6 Will Not Feature Console-Only Crossplay
In an interview with Dexerto, EA confirmed that Battlefield 6 players won’t be able to play with console-only crossplay, and that console players will still be matched with PC players if they turn on the cross-play option.
This was different from the information EA provided to IGN in an interview, where the opposite was said. Matthew Nickerson, the senior console combat designer of Battlefield 6, mentioned, “Console-only crossplay happens if you turn it off. When you flip that switch, then you get, basically, console-only crossplay, and that is, we don’t fill with PC players.”
One of the problems with PC players being able to join the lobbies of console players is their ability to cheat, which is substantially easier using the PC. This, in turn, can result in console players not enjoying the game, which also presents another problem.
Turning off crossplay in Battlefield 6 would mean that players will only be able to play against other players using the same console. This would drastically limit the number of players they can play with.
While EA added that players on consoles with cross-play on would mean that the system would prioritize matching them with other console players, it still isn’t the kind of cross-play that Nickerson mentioned during the IGN interview.
Battlefield 6 is a first-person shooter developed by Battlefield Studios and published by EA. The game is set to be released on Oct. 10, 2025, for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
